TLDR Glioma treatment may improve with new therapies and technologies.
The treatment outcomes for gliomas, particularly glioblastomas (GBM), have historically been poor due to their aggressive nature. However, several research areas offer hope for future improvements: advancements in radiotherapy, such as stereotactic radiosurgery, aim to make radiation doses more effective; FET-PET imaging provides more precise assessments of tumor infiltration than MRI, influencing clinical practices; and alternating electric field therapy has shown improved median survival, marking a significant development since the introduction of temozolomide. Despite these promising directions, gliomas remain challenging to treat, and the ultimate impact of these innovations will depend on ongoing and future clinical trials and the speed of clinical implementation. A prospective study on the use of radiosurgery based on FET-PET combined with alternating electric field therapy for recurrent GBM will be presented at the conference.
