TLDR GLP-1 receptor agonists can both help and harm hair, so careful monitoring is needed.
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), used for type II diabetes and obesity, have shown mixed effects on hair conditions. While some studies report hair regrowth in androgenetic alopecia and reduced inflammation in cicatricial alopecia, others associate GLP-1RAs with telogen effluvium. Due to varied findings, it is advised to conduct careful clinical evaluations and monitor patients closely. Further prospective, controlled studies are needed to understand the impact of GLP-1RAs on hair biology and ensure safe prescribing practices.
