TLDR GSDMA deficiency slows skin cancer growth.
This study investigates the role of GSDMA in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and finds that GSDMA deficiency impairs tumor growth. GSDMA is upregulated in cSCC and promotes cell proliferation through the EGFR-AKT signaling pathway, accelerating tumor progression. The research, primarily conducted on mouse models, suggests that GSDMA could serve as a biomarker for early diagnosis and a potential therapeutic target for cSCC. However, further studies are needed to understand the signaling pathways enhancing GSDMA expression and its role in other squamous cell carcinomas. The study highlights the context-dependent functions of GSDMA, which may switch from pro-pyroptotic in normal epidermis to proliferative in cancerous conditions.
