TLDR PRP injections help relieve hip pain in most cases.
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is a common cause of lateral hip pain, particularly affecting females, with an incidence rate of 1.8 per 1000 annually. This systematic review analyzed the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in treating GTPS by reviewing nine studies from 2013 to 2024, involving 508 patients. The findings suggest that PRP injections provide improvement and sustained symptom relief in most cases, with eight out of nine studies reporting positive outcomes. PRP was often found to be more effective than corticosteroid injections. Despite these promising results, the review highlights the need for more large-scale, high-quality randomized clinical trials to better evaluate PRP's effectiveness for GTPS.
