TLDR Gut microbiota may significantly influence polycystic ovary syndrome.
This review explores the role of gut microbiota and its metabolites in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a prevalent endocrine and metabolic disorder in women of childbearing age. Although the exact pathogenesis of PCOS is still unclear, emerging evidence suggests it is a complex polymorphic disease influenced by epigenetic and environmental factors such as diet and lifestyle. The review highlights the growing interest in the connection between the gut microbiome and metabolic disorders, suggesting that gut microbiota may play a significant role in the development and progression of PCOS.
