Gynostemma Pentaphyllum Makino Extract Induces Hair Growth And Exhibits An Anti-Graying Effect Via Multiple Mechanisms

The study explores the effects of Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Gp) extract on hair growth and anti-graying. Gp promotes hair growth by downregulating the TGF-β1 gene and upregulating β-catenin and Wnt 5a, which are crucial in hair follicle signaling. In C57BL/6 mice, Gp delayed the catagen phase, extending hair growth. It also protected melanocytes from stress, indicating potential anti-graying effects. Using human dermal papilla cells and B16 melanocytes, the study suggests Gp as a promising natural ingredient for hair health, though further human trials are necessary to confirm its efficacy.
