Hair Follicle Micro-Particle Skin Grafting Induces Scar Remodeling Via PI3K-AKT Signaling: A Randomized Clinical Trial

    TLDR Hair follicle micro-particle skin grafting improves scar appearance and function.
    This randomized clinical trial involving 40 scar patients found that hair follicle micro-particle skin grafting significantly improved scar remodeling compared to punch excision alone. Participants receiving the grafts showed greater reductions in scar volume, lower Vancouver Scar Scale scores, and better alleviation of pain and itching after 6 months. Histological and transcriptomic analyses indicated that these benefits were linked to epidermal thickening, enhanced cell proliferation, increased type IV collagen deposition, and activation of the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. The study concludes that this grafting technique is an effective therapeutic strategy for improving both the aesthetic and functional outcomes of mature scars.
