TLDR Hair health is affected by various conditions and requires personalized treatment.
This study reviews the physiology of hair follicles and describes major scalp diseases, emphasizing their pathophysiological mechanisms and current therapeutic approaches. Key conditions include androgenetic alopecia, characterized by follicle miniaturization due to androgens; telogen effluvium, often triggered by physical or emotional stress; and alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder causing localized hair loss. Other significant conditions are seborrheic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis, and fungal infections like tinea capitis. Nutritional factors, hormonal changes, and systemic diseases also affect hair health. Management requires individualized approaches, potentially involving topical and systemic therapies, low-level laser therapy, and microneedling.
