TLDR Addressing biological changes in lipids, metabolism, and microbiota may help treat hair loss in young Chinese females with oily scalps.
The study on 240 young Chinese females aged 18-35 examined hair loss and oily scalp issues, revealing significant differences in scalp physiological indicators and microbial communities between those with and without these problems. Key findings include the identification of eight lipids and two lipid metabolic pathways, such as ceramides and sphingolipid pathways, linked to hair loss and scalp health. The research highlights the complex interaction between scalp lipids and microorganisms, with geographical differences suggesting environmental influences. Although the study provides insights into potential mechanisms and biomarkers for hair loss, it calls for further longitudinal research to establish causal relationships and develop targeted hair and scalp care products.
