TLDR Aralia continentalis root extract may help with hair growth.
In a study conducted 13 years ago, Aralia continentalis extract (ACE), a Korean natural herb, was found to promote hair regeneration in C57BL/6 mice. The study divided the animals into four groups, each receiving different treatments: a vehicle control (30% ethanol), a positive control (5% minoxidil), and two experimental groups (ACE at 1 and 10 mg/ml). These treatments were applied topically on the depilated dorsal skin of the mice daily for four weeks. The ACE groups showed approximately 20% more hair follicle development than the vehicle group, suggesting that ACE stimulates the anagen progression of the hair shaft. Interestingly, the lower dose ACE group had more effective hair reconstitution than the high dose ACE group. The study concluded that ACE has potential for hair regeneration, but further research was needed to explore the synergistic effect of oral and topical administrations of ACE on hair restoration.
