TLDR Apremilast showed mixed results for hair regrowth in alopecia areata.
The study explored the concept of "wound-induced hair follicle neogenesis" (WIHN), where a large open full-thickness wound of skin was shown to induce hair follicle regeneration in adult mice. This process was particularly relevant in the context of androgen alopecia (AGA), where the telogen-anagen transition in hair follicles fails, leading to blocked hair regeneration and baldness. The research suggested that epidermal peeling might stimulate hair regeneration by overcoming the incomplete transition phase in AGA-affected regions.
