Case Study of Hair Regrowth with Topical Cannabidiol

    Gregory L. Smith, John Satino
TLDR Daily use of CBD-rich hemp oil significantly increased hair growth in people with hair loss.
A study involving 35 subjects (28 men and 7 women) with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) found that daily topical application of a CBD-rich hemp oil resulted in a significant 93.5% increase in nonvellus hair after 6 months, with men and the vertex area showing slightly better results. The study suggested that CBD likely functions as a CB1 receptor antagonist and may also involve Wnt signaling, contributing to hair regrowth. No adverse effects were reported, and the results were comparable to those of finasteride and 5% minoxidil, indicating potential for synergistic use with these treatments.
