Hairline as a Neurosurgical Landmark

    This study explored the relationship between hairline topography and neuroanatomical structures, involving 500 patients for general hairline analysis and 20 patients for detailed topographic analysis using CT angiography and MRI. The research identified a clear relationship between the hairline and over 20 cranial, cerebral, and vascular structures, such as the coronal and lambdoid sutures and various cortical sulci and gyri. The study found that the hairline provides clinically acceptable spatial accuracy for neurosurgical planning, with the frontal region being constant in 85% of males and 99% of females, and the temporal and occipital regions being constant in 95% to 100% of both sexes. This novel data suggests that the hairline can be used alongside traditional landmarks in neurosurgical approaches.
