TLDR Higher HDAC1 levels in alopecia areata suggest HDAC inhibitors might help treat it and acne.
This study investigated the deregulation of histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) in patients with alopecia areata (AA) and acne vulgaris. Conducted as a case-control study with 76 participants, including 25 with patchy AA, 26 with acne vulgaris, and 25 healthy controls, the research measured HDAC1 levels using ELISA. Results showed a significant difference in serum HDAC1 levels among the groups, with the highest levels observed in the AA group. The findings suggested that HDAC1 deregulation might offer a potential therapeutic target for HDAC inhibitors in treating these conditions.
