Hematoma After Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy and Hair Transplantation for Androgenic Alopecia: A Case Report

TLDR PRP therapy and hair transplants can cause rare but treatable scalp hematomas.
A 27-year-old male developed a frontal scalp hematoma seven days after undergoing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy and one month post-hair transplantation surgery for androgenic alopecia. The hematoma, likely caused by a puncture to scalp blood vessels, was treated with fluid aspiration and a compression bandage, leading to its resolution. The use of topical minoxidil may have contributed to the hematoma's formation. This case highlights the importance for dermatologists and trichologists to be aware of this rare but possible side effect, which can cause significant discomfort and concern for patients.
