TLDR Skin diseases like alopecia areata and psoriasis may be linked to blood clotting issues and heart problems.
This review explores the relationship between inflammatory dermatologic diseases, such as alopecia areata and psoriasis, and their potential links to thromboembolic and hypercoagulable states. Current literature suggests a possible connection between these skin diseases and systemic inflammation, which may lead to cardiovascular comorbidities. Biomarkers like F1 + 2, D-dimer, and PAI-1 are being studied to understand these links, but more research is needed to draw definitive conclusions. The review highlights the need for further investigation into the molecular mechanisms and clinical outcomes of these traditionally "skin limited" diseases to improve patient care.
