Innate Knowledge of Herbal Medicine Among the Sonowal Kachari Tribe of Lakhimpur District, Assam, India

    The study on the Sonowal Kachari tribe of Lakhimpur District, Assam, India, involved 180 elderly participants and identified 39 plants with medicinal value. The tribe predominantly uses leaves (54.34%) for medicinal purposes, followed by roots, whole plants, and other plant parts. The research highlighted the use of specific plants for treating various ailments, including three plants for hair growth. The findings underscore the tribe's significant contribution to herbal medicine, presenting a valuable resource for potential new therapeutic discoveries.
