TLDR A balanced diet is crucial for normalizing hormone levels and managing obesity-related issues.
This study on 87 juvenile mice explored the impact of a high-fat high-carbohydrate (HFHC) diet on steroid hormone concentrations in hair, comparing it with a control diet and nutraceutical supplementation (silymarin or coconut oil). The HFHC diet led to increased cortisol/DHEA ratios and altered levels of hormones like progesterone, DHEA-S, and estradiol, contributing to obesity and hormonal imbalances. Transitioning to a control diet normalized body weight and hormone levels, indicating dietary correction as the optimal therapy. Nutraceuticals showed potential in modulating endocrine pathways but should complement, not replace, a balanced diet. The findings underscore the importance of dietary management in addressing obesity-related hormonal disruptions.
