TLDR Histopathology is crucial for accurately diagnosing eruptive vellus hair cysts.
This case study highlights the importance of histopathology in diagnosing eruptive vellus hair cysts (EVHC), particularly in individuals with darker skin phototypes. A 29-year-old woman with Fitzpatrick skin phototype VI presented with persistent papular eruptions on her abdomen, which were initially misdiagnosed. Histopathological examination revealed mid-dermal cysts containing vellus hair shafts, confirming EVHC. The study emphasizes that EVHC should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic papular eruptions to prevent misdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments. The condition is benign, and conservative management with regular follow-up is recommended.
