TLDR Androgens regulate 5 alpha-reductase activity in hamster sebaceous glands.
The study investigated the impact of castration on 5 alpha-reductase activity in male hamster sebaceous glands, finding that enzyme activity more than doubled within 4 days post-castration and remained elevated for up to 63 days. Administering testosterone propionate or 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone to castrated hamsters completely inhibited this increase, an effect that was blocked by cyproterone acetate. These findings suggested that androgens played a regulatory role in 5 alpha-reductase activity in hamster sebaceous glands.
