TLDR Hydrogels have great potential for improving wound care, drug delivery, and tissue engineering in veterinary medicine.
Hydrogels, known for their superior moisturizing properties, mechanical strength, and biomimetic characteristics, have shown significant potential in veterinary medicine, particularly in wound management, drug delivery, and tissue engineering. Despite their widespread use in human biomedical fields, their application in veterinary medicine remains limited. This review highlights the advantages of hydrogels over traditional animal wound dressings, their promising role in transdermal, oral, and rectal drug delivery, and their potential in animal tissue engineering due to their resemblance to the extracellular matrix. The paper aims to enhance understanding and inspire further research into hydrogel applications in veterinary medicine.
