Hypothyroidism is a prevalent endocrine disorder, second only to diabetes, characterized by diverse and nonspecific symptoms due to the widespread influence of thyroid hormones on various organs and systems. The condition can manifest as diastolic hypertension, dyslipidemia, alopecia, and other symptoms, often complicating diagnosis, especially in elderly and multimorbid patients. These symptoms can mimic other diseases, termed as “masks” of hypothyroidism, leading patients to consult multiple specialists. Accurate diagnosis requires physicians to consider hypothyroidism as a potential underlying cause and to thoroughly investigate the patient's medical history and concomitant diseases.
