TLDR IBS is linked to certain skin conditions like psoriasis and rosacea, and vice versa.
This large-scale retrospective study analyzed data from 382,717 IBS patients and an equal number of healthy controls to investigate the association between IBS and dermatological conditions. The study found that IBS patients had higher odds of having psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, rosacea, and urticaria, with odds ratios ranging from 1.10 to 1.27. Conversely, patients with psoriasis, rosacea, and urticaria also had increased odds of having IBS. No significant association was found for atopic dermatitis or alopecia areata. These findings suggest a bidirectional association between IBS and certain skin conditions, emphasizing the importance of integrated care approaches for patients with these comorbidities.
