Establishment and Characterization of an Immortalized Human Dermal Papilla Cell Line

    Researchers established an immortalized human dermal papilla cell line, SV40T-hTERT-DPC, by introducing the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene into a previously developed SV40T-transformed human DP cell line. This new cell line did not form tumors in nude mice and maintained the morphology, marker expression, and signaling pathway responses characteristic of early passage dermal papilla cells, which are essential for hair-inducing activity. This development was significant for hair research as it provided a stable and non-tumorigenic model for studying human dermal papilla cells.
