Impact of Personal Care Products on Tensile Strength and Structure of Hair

    Jordan Kunze
TLDR More research is needed to understand how shampoo chemicals affect hair strength and structure.
The study investigated the effects of three chemical components—citric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium chloride—found in shampoos on hair's mass, tensile strength, and diameter. The results indicated that deionized (DI) water significantly impacted hair, complicating the clarity of the results regarding the chemicals' effects. Although the interactions of these chemicals with hair appeared significant, the study concluded that further research was necessary to better understand the extent and significance of these impacts.
