TLDR Finasteride improves urinary function in men for 2 years.
A number of studies have found that finasteride is an effective treatment for men with benign prostatic enlargement and lower urinary tract symptoms. The drug can improve pressure-flow parameters and lead to continued improvement in urinary function over a 2-year period. The improvement is particularly significant in men with larger prostate volumes at the beginning of the study. However, the clinical significance of these changes is unclear, and more research is needed to understand the long-term effects of alpha-blocker therapy on urodynamic function.
