TLDR Incretin-based drugs for obesity often cause gastrointestinal issues, with tirzepatide having the most reports.
The study analyzed adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with incretin-based drugs for obesity, focusing on semaglutide (SEM), liraglutide (LIR), and tirzepatide (TIR) using EudraVigilance reports. It found that gastrointestinal disorders were the most frequently reported ADRs across all three drugs, with TIR having the highest number of reports. Notably, some ADRs like alopecia with LIR and optic ischemic neuropathy with TIR and LIR were reported despite not being listed in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). The study emphasizes the need for continuous pharmacovigilance to identify potential safety signals beyond current SmPC information, which could improve awareness of safety concerns and impact treatment adherence and patient quality of life.
