TLDR The hydrogel speeds up wound healing and improves skin repair better than commercial options.
The study presents an injectable photocuring silk fibroin-based hydrogel (SF-g-SDA) designed to create an antioxidant microenvironment for skin repair. This hydrogel incorporates methacrylated dopamine into methacrylated silk fibroin, resulting in a material with excellent tensile and adhesion properties, stable mechanical properties, biodegradability, and cytocompatibility. It promotes cell adhesion, vascularization, and protects cells from oxidative stress. In animal experiments, SF-g-SDA outperformed commercial Tegaderm™ by accelerating wound healing, enhancing collagen deposition and alignment, and promoting neovascularization and hair follicle formation, indicating its potential as an effective wound dressing.
