Impacts of Iron on Phosphate Starvation-Induced Root Hair Growth in Arabidopsis

    The study investigated the role of iron (Fe) in phosphate starvation-induced root hair growth (RHG) in Arabidopsis. It was found that Fe influenced RHG at both phosphate sufficient and deficient levels through the generation of reactive oxygen species. The research highlighted the necessity of auxin and the central regulator PHR1 for Fe-triggered RHG under phosphate deficiency. Proteomic analysis suggested that Fe affected vesicle trafficking and auxin synthesis and transport, with a notable impact on the recycling of PIN2, an auxin efflux transporter. The findings proposed that Fe modulated auxin signaling by influencing vesicle trafficking, particularly PIN2 recycling, potentially in conjunction with PHR1, to regulate phosphate starvation-induced RHG.
