TLDR Jojoba oil is beneficial for skin, hair, and health but has economic challenges for large-scale farming.
Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is a drought-resistant shrub valued for its seeds and oil, which have been traditionally used to treat various ailments, including skin and scalp disorders, and to promote hair growth. The oil, a unique liquid-wax, is utilized in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other industries. Jojoba oil exhibits numerous pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities. Despite its benefits, the plant's heterozygous progeny raises concerns about its economic viability on a commercial scale, although successful plantations exist in Rajasthan, India.
