The study investigates the effects of Juniperus communis extract (JCE) combined with the chemotherapy drug 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) on oral cancer cells. The results demonstrate that JCE enhances the inhibitory effects of 5-FU on cancer cell growth by inducing cell cycle arrest and promoting apoptosis through the activation of caspases. The combination treatment significantly affects the expression of proteins involved in the Akt/mTOR pathway and cell cycle regulation, leading to improved tumor suppression. Additionally, JCE helps reduce the development of drug resistance in oral cancer cells treated with 5-FU. This suggests that JCE could be developed as an anticancer drug or used as an adjuvant in oral cancer treatment to enhance efficacy and reduce side effects.
