TLDR The professional laser is more effective than the home-use laser for hair reduction.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of a professional Diode laser versus the Silk’n™ Flash & Go Lux home-use laser for hair reduction in 15 female participants. The professional laser achieved significantly higher hair reduction (85% on the right axilla and 88% on the left) compared to the home-use laser (52% on the right axilla and 46.3% on the left). Both devices caused mild side effects, but no serious adverse effects were reported. The study concluded that while the home-use laser was effective, it worked at a slower rate and lacked built-in cooling mechanisms, affecting safety and comfort. Skin type influenced outcomes, with Fitzpatrick skin type IV showing greater hair reduction than type III. Concerns about long-term retinal damage from home-use lasers were noted, emphasizing the need for professional supervision and adherence to safety protocols.
