TLDR Leech therapy effectively treated a young girl's patchy hair loss with minimal complications.
A case report describes the use of Jalaukavcharana (leech therapy) for treating a 5-year-old girl with Alopecia Areata, characterized by patchy hair loss on the scalp. The condition, linked to vitiated pitta, vata, rakta, and kapha, was treated using Raktamokshana (therapeutic bloodletting) as per Ayurvedic practices. After eight sessions, the patient showed symptom relief, with the therapy proving to be cost-effective, easy to administer, and resulting in fewer complications and reduced risk of recurrence. The treatment was completed within three months, demonstrating positive outcomes.
