TLDR Alopecia universalis may be linked to Down syndrome due to genes on chromosome 21.
The document discussed the association between alopecia universalis and Down syndrome, highlighting that in a report of 219 cases of alopecia areata, 3 individuals (1.4%) had Down syndrome, with onset before age 15 and extensive involvement. Additionally, in a series of 212 childhood alopecia areata cases from India, only 1 had Down syndrome. The potential link between alopecia areata and Down syndrome was suggested to be related to genes on chromosome 21.
