TLDR A high fiber, low glycemic diet, exercise, and stress management can help reduce PCOS symptoms.
This dissertation explored the impact of lifestyle on women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), focusing on dietary intake, physical activity, and psychological well-being. The study found that women with PCOS had similar caloric intake and physical activity levels as those without PCOS but were more overweight. Insulin resistance (IR) in women with PCOS was linked to lower fiber and magnesium intake and a higher glycemic load. Increased fiber and magnesium intake were associated with reduced IR, hyperandrogenemia, and dyslipidemia. Women with PCOS, especially those with hyperandrogenism, experienced higher anxiety levels, potentially due to societal pressures related to appearance. The study suggested that a lifestyle emphasizing a high fiber, low glycemic diet, supplementation, physical activity, and emotional distress management could improve PCOS symptoms.
