The Impact of Lifestyle on the Reproductive, Metabolic, and Psychological Well-Being of Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

TLDR A high fiber, low glycemic diet, exercise, and stress management can help reduce PCOS symptoms.
This dissertation explored the impact of lifestyle on women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), revealing that while caloric intake and physical activity levels were similar to those without PCOS, women with PCOS were more overweight. Insulin resistance in these women was linked to lower fiber and magnesium intake and a higher glycemic load. Increased fiber and magnesium intake were associated with reduced insulin resistance, hyperandrogenemia, and dyslipidemia. Additionally, women with PCOS, especially those with hyperandrogenism, experienced higher anxiety levels, potentially due to societal pressures related to appearance. The study suggested that a lifestyle emphasizing a high fiber, low glycemic diet, supplementation, physical activity, and emotional distress management could alleviate some PCOS symptoms.
