A preliminary study suggests that line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT) can noninvasively identify specific morphological features, such as lymphocytic and vacuolar interface dermatitis, in cicatricial alopecia caused by lupus erythematodes (LE). Notably, hyperreflective collagen fibers are highlighted as a distinctive feature that aids in differentiating LE from other types of scarring alopecia. The study emphasizes the need for further research to distinguish between various forms of scarring alopecia.
