TLDR Surgery with a carbon-dioxide laser successfully treated a Labrador's tongue condition, but some hair regrew.
A 9-year-old Labrador retriever presented with dysphagia and lingual hairs was diagnosed with pyogranulomatous glossitis and lingual hair heterotopia. Imaging revealed hair shafts in proliferative tissue along the tongue's midline. Surgical excision using a carbon-dioxide laser was performed, and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. Ten months post-surgery, clinical signs and glossitis resolved, although some hair regrowth occurred. The study highlights that while lingual hair heterotopia often lacks clinical impact, associated ulcerative lesions warrant imaging and biopsy. Carbon-dioxide laser resection provided a good outcome, though hair regrowth may recur.
