TLDR Liposomal IGF-1 safely and effectively treats hair loss in hamsters.
The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of liposomal insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in a fluid gel formulation for treating hair loss in hamsters. The research found no significant hepatotoxicity or myelotoxicity in hamsters treated with 1% or 3% IGF-1 compared to a placebo. Plasma IGF-1 levels did not increase, indicating no systemic absorption. Efficacy was demonstrated through dermatoscopy and microscopy, showing that the 3% IGF-1 group had thicker hair and faster growth than the 1% IGF-1 and control groups. These findings suggested that liposomal IGF-1 was a safe and effective treatment for hair loss.
