TLDR Loliolide from Scenedesmus deserticola may help with anti-aging.
The study investigated the anti-aging properties of different extracts from the green microalga Scenedesmus deserticola JD052. The ethyl acetate extract showed a significant increase of over 20% in the viability of normal human dermal fibroblasts compared to the negative control. Further fractionation of this extract revealed two bioactive fractions with strong anti-UV properties, one of which was identified as loliolide using ESI-MS and NMR spectroscopy. This compound, rarely reported in microalgae, suggests potential for further exploration in the microalgal industry.
