TLDR Combining low-dose oral minoxidil with immunomodulators shows promise for treating alopecia areata but needs more research.
This systematic review evaluated the efficacy and safety of combining low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) with systemic immunomodulators, particularly Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis), in treating alopecia areata (AA). The review included 19 studies with 388 patients, predominantly using oral tofacitinib and baricitinib. Results showed that 71.4% of patients achieved a SALT score ≤ 20 with combination therapy, significantly higher than monotherapy outcomes. However, adverse events such as hypercholesterolemia and hypertrichosis were noted. Despite promising results, the evidence is limited by small sample sizes and potential biases, highlighting the need for larger, randomized controlled trials to better assess the efficacy and safety of this combination therapy.

The user has been using finasteride for hair loss since January 2023, initially seeing improvement but now experiencing increased thinning. They are considering other factors like thyroid and insulin resistance and are seeking advice from long-term finasteride users, while some suggest trying dutasteride, minoxidil, or consulting a dermatologist for further evaluation.

community Is it okay to start oral minoxidil with creatine?

      in Research/Science  3 upvotes 3 weeks ago
Oral minoxidil and creatine can be used together, but it's advised to start one at a time to monitor side effects. Creatine may increase DHT levels, potentially causing more hair shedding, while minoxidil can lower blood pressure, so hydration and monitoring for dizziness are important.

community Do you think oral minoxidil will become the standard for hair loss in 2026?

in Minoxidil  141 upvotes 1 month ago
Oral minoxidil is considered more convenient and effective for some users, with positive results reported, but concerns about side effects and availability persist. Finasteride remains a standard treatment, while some users explore combinations with other treatments like dutasteride and laser devices.

community How soon did you start seeing results with Oral Minoxidil?

in Minoxidil  7 upvotes 1 month ago
Oral minoxidil shows varying results for hair regrowth, with some users seeing improvements within weeks to months, while others see minimal or no gains. Combining treatments like finasteride or Tretinoin may enhance results, but outcomes differ widely.
