TLDR Women with PCOS have lower zinc levels.
This cohort study involving 100 women (50 with PCOS and 50 without) found that women with PCOS have significantly lower serum zinc levels (122.00 ± 26.72 μg/dL) compared to those without PCOS (134.89 ± 23.06 μg/dL), with a P-value of 0.012. The study also observed a negative correlation between zinc levels and both body mass index (BMI) and fasting insulin levels, suggesting a link between zinc deficiency and insulin resistance in PCOS. Despite similar BMI, women with PCOS showed higher waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio, indicating central obesity. These findings highlight the importance of zinc in metabolic and reproductive health and suggest that zinc supplementation could be beneficial in managing PCOS. Further research is needed to explore zinc's therapeutic role in PCOS.
