TLDR Hair and body shampoos differ in properties to meet specific needs for hair and skin.
This study analyzed the physicochemical properties of hair and body shampoos available in Al Khums, Libya, focusing on surface tension, foam height, pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Refractive Index, and Brix%. Results showed significant differences between the two types of shampoos, with body shampoos having lower surface tension and higher foam heights, catering to consumer sensory preferences. Hair shampoos were more acidic, which is beneficial for protecting the hair shaft, and had lower foam heights due to the presence of conditioning agents. Both shampoo types exhibited high TDS and electrolyte content to modify viscosity. These differences are attributed to the specific functional needs for skin and hair health and sensory performance.
