A 17-month-old girl experienced sudden hair whitening during hospitalization for septic shock, diagnosed as diffuse alopecia areata with achromotrichia. Despite normal hematologic and immunologic tests, her hair repigmented spontaneously within 3 months. This case emphasizes systemic stress as a potential trigger for pediatric canities subita and the need to differentiate it from congenital silvery hair syndromes due to differing prognoses and treatments.
