TLDR Most men prefer keeping their eyebrows over scalp hair.
A survey involving 22 patients with severe alopecia areata (AA) and 53 healthy controls found that men with AA and in the control group were more likely than women to prefer keeping their eyebrows over scalp hair. Specifically, 63% of men with AA and 62% of men in the control group prioritized eyebrows, compared to 7.1% and 30% of women, respectively. The study suggests that cultural norms may influence these preferences, as baldness in men is often associated with maturity. The findings propose that eyebrow involvement should be considered a significant marker of severe AA due to its impact on emotional expression and communication. Future research should validate these results in larger, diverse populations.
