TLDR Men with hair loss mainly see doctors for treatment options like minoxidil.
The study explored the consultations, motives, experiences, and attitudes of 201 men with alopecia androgenetica who had previously shown interest in minoxidil treatment. Over two years, one-third consulted a professional about hair loss, with 60% seeing general practitioners and about 75% seeing other professionals. The primary motive was seeking hair treatment, which was offered to half of those who consulted. Medical professionals were generally preferred for minoxidil treatment consultations. The likelihood of treatment success and the severity of hair problems were more influential in seeking consultation than the professional's suitability or the degree of baldness. There were indications that those consulting both general practitioners and other professionals also faced more general problems.
