TLDR Hair can help assess Copper and Zinc levels in dogs.
The study evaluated the correlation of micro minerals, specifically Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), and Zinc (Zn), in the primary hair-plasma of 20 dogs, comprising 10 Pomeranians and 10 Labradors. It was found that the correlation coefficients for Cu and Zn in the primary hair-plasma were significant at the 5% and 1% levels for both breeds. However, the correlation for Fe was not significant in either breed. This suggested that hair could be a useful biopsy material for assessing certain mineral levels in dogs.
