TLDR Avoid hair dye after microneedling to prevent scalp pigmentation.
A 44-year-old female patient experienced an unexpected complication after undergoing a microneedling technique known as Microinfusion of drugs into the skin (MMP®) for female pattern hair loss. Two days post-procedure, she dyed her hair and developed linear pigmentation on her scalp that resembled a tattoo. Trichoscopy indicated that the pigmentation was due to hair dye penetrating the needle entry points. This case underscores the need for patient counseling on avoiding hair dye shortly after undergoing MMP® to prevent such complications.

Microneedling may not significantly enhance hair growth when combined with dutasteride and oral minoxidil, as its primary benefit is improving topical absorption. Some users suggest using a 1.5mm depth for potential follicle stimulation, but results and effectiveness vary.

Microneedling combined with minoxidil and finasteride initially showed significant hair growth, but stopping microneedling and reducing minoxidil use led to hair loss. Returning to the original routine may help regain lost progress.
