TLDR Minoxidil with a diuretic effectively lowers blood pressure in moderately hypertensive men with minimal side effects.
The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of minoxidil in 8 moderately hypertensive out-patients treated with hydrochlorothiazide and minoxidil for 5 months. Seven male patients experienced a moderate decrease in blood pressure with minimal side effects, including mild exertional tachycardia and a mean weight increase of 0.5 kg, but no oedema or cardiac insufficiency. The only female patient developed slight, reversible facial hair growth. The study concluded that minoxidil combined with a diuretic could be successfully used in treating moderately hypertensive male patients.
