TLDR A 6-year-old girl was diagnosed with a rare hair disorder and started treatment with topical minoxidil.
Monilethrix is a rare hereditary condition characterized by fragile hair with elliptical nodes and constrictions, often diagnosed through dermoscopy and optical microscopy. This case report detailed a 6-year-old girl with no family history of the disease, presenting with diffuse hypotrichosis and keratotic follicular papules. Treatment with topical minoxidil 2% led to some improvement in hair length. The condition can be managed by avoiding hair trauma, and while treatments like minoxidil may show initial improvements, they often lack lasting effects.
