TLDR MYB83 limits root hair growth and helps plants tolerate nutrient deficiencies.
This study reveals that MYB83, a MYB transcription factor, negatively regulates ethylene-mediated root hair growth by directly inhibiting the expression of ETHYLENE INSENSITIVE3 (EIN3) in Arabidopsis. MYB83 is highly expressed in root hairs, and its overexpression inhibits root hair growth, while myb83 mutants show increased growth. Ethylene signaling reduces MYB83 levels, and the loss of MYB83 results in insensitivity to ethylene's effects on root hair growth. The MYB83-EIN3 module is crucial for root hair growth, nutrient absorption, and plant tolerance to nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium deficiencies.
